ACADEMY AWARDS The RKO Shorts unit in the period from 1933, the first year an Academy Award was given in the short subject category to 1949, they have been nominated five times. Edgar Kennedy and Leon Errol were both nominated once. In fact the first Oscar to a short went to RKO's "So This Is Harris". There were other Oscars for RKO shorts, but they were not from the comedy shorts unit.
